Environment Focus: Good Choices for Consumers

In this post, we will talk about respect for the environment and the small attentions in our daily choices that can make a big difference.

Respect for the environment is a topic that is very close to our hearts and one we frequently return to in this blog. On the side of public administrations, the Green Public Procurement (GPP), which is spreading across Europe, suggests virtuous behaviors and guidelines for greater environmental attention. On the corporate side, we are witnessing processes of certification and analysis of the Carbon Footprint, as well as compliance with CAM.

But the focus of this post is on the attitude of all of us, private citizens, as consumers: what can we do in our private lives to help the environment? Are we aware of the impact our daily choices have on our planet? What energy class do our appliances belong to? What kind of cleaning products do we use? Do we prefer to use a bicycle for short trips instead of always taking the car?

Consumernotice.org is a consumer advocacy organization in the United States, and in this post: https://www.consumernotice.org/environmental/pollution-reduction/
they offer a series of guidelines, supported by very interesting statistical data, on some small choices that can make a difference.

Last but not least we would like to add another element of reflection to the interesting suggestions offered by Consumernotice.org on the reconditioning of products, another aspect that is very important to us.

As consumers, do we buy reconditioned clothing, equipment, and products in general? When we buy a new product, do we think about quality or is it enough that it is cheap?

Because to have a “reconditionable” product that can have a second life, it must start from a good quality product, which is almost never the “first price” product.
